Phillip Pham, Rashmi, and Margriet enjoyed a short wildlife escape to Pilibhit Tiger Reserve, experiencing Tarai winter safaris, a comfortable stay at Hotel Royal Kingdom, and two rewarding tiger sightings along with deer, monkeys, crocodiles, and barking deer during their relaxed 2-night, 3-day trip.
Report By: Mr. Sudhir Sharma
Mr. Philip contacted us for a 02-night wildlife destination within a week’s time. We checked all parks like Ranthambhore, Kanha, Bandhavgarh, and Panna for safaris, but all were sold out. Sanjay Dhubri & Philibhit Tiger Reserve were the only two options for them. As time was short, we could not waste time traveling to Sanjay Dhubri by overnight trains.
Finally, Pilibhit Tiger Reserve done, keeping Corbett aside due to sighting chances. In Corbett, only the Dhikala zone is best for tiger sightings.
Finally, it was a 2-night and 3-day trip planned for them. He wanted to relax, so only 02 safaris were given to them.
30 Nov 24: Delhi—Philibhit Tiger Reserve.
Manish started early from Delhi & reached Hotel Royal Kingdom by lunchtime. Delhi – Pilibhit is about 360 km / 06-07 hr if someone is in a relax mood. As there was no safari today, we relaxed .
This is the only 3-star-level hotel in the Pilibhit area. As this destination is in the developing phase, there are so many nice home stays you can find close to the gate. Hopefully in the next few years nice hotels will also come up.

01 Dec 24: Morning Safari / Zone 01.
The December cold is very tough in the Tarai region. Multilayer clothing is always recommended. We started from our resort, which is 18 km from the safari gate. It was foggy & cold winds were blowing during the safari. Open jeep safaris in chilling cold are a different experience.
We checked all possible points of different tigers in our zone, but no tigers were seen. Other animals like monkeys , deer, and crocodiles were seen.
01 Dec 24: Afternoon Safari / Zone 02.
This was our last safari for the short tour. Our guide collected information about tiger sightings in various zones. He got some clues about tiger spotting in Zone 02 in the morning shift. After entering the park, we directly reached that area. After waiting for 20 minutes, a huge tiger came from the forest on the main road just in front of our jeep. It was a great sighting. After that we moved to other tigers’ territory. We waited for the next few minutes & saw our second tiger.
What a great safari! 02 different tigers, crocodiles & barking deer, besides other common animals.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Pilibhit Tiger Reserve good for a short 2–3 day trip?
Yes. Phillip, Rashmi and Margriet’s 2-night, 3-day trip shows that a relaxed Pilibhit escape can still deliver multiple tiger sightings. It works well when you have limited time and want a drive from Delhi instead of long flights.
How far is Pilibhit from Delhi, and how long does the drive take?
Delhi to Pilibhit is about 360 km and usually takes 6–7 hours if you drive at a relaxed pace. This makes it suitable for a weekend or short mid-week break.
How many safaris are enough for a short Pilibhit trip?
For a relaxed 2–3 day plan, 2–3 safaris usually work well. Phillip’s group did one morning and one afternoon safari and saw two different tigers, plus crocodiles, deer and barking deer.
What is the best time to visit Pilibhit Tiger Reserve?
For tiger sightings, March to June is usually best. For comfortable weather and birdlife, October to March works well. Winter mornings can be very cold and foggy, so warm clothing is important.
What kind of clothing should we carry for a winter Pilibhit safari?
In December and January, the Tarai region can be very cold. Multilayer clothing, a warm jacket, gloves, cap and a shawl or blanket in the jeep are recommended, especially for early morning drives.
Which animals can we expect in Pilibhit besides tigers?
Pilibhit supports spotted deer, sambar, barking deer, wild boar, nilgai, monkeys, crocodiles and a variety of birds. Depending on the season and zone, you may also see leopards, sloth bears and other mammals.
Are tiger sightings guaranteed in Pilibhit?
No wildlife sighting is ever guaranteed. However, Pilibhit has a growing tiger population and good habitat. With the right zone, timing and guide, chances improve significantly.
What kind of stay options are available near Pilibhit?
At present, there are comfortable 3-star-level hotels like Hotel Royal Kingdom, as well as several good homestays close to the safari gate. More hotels are expected as the destination develops.
Is Pilibhit better than Corbett for a short tiger trip?
It depends on your priorities. Corbett’s Dhikala zone is excellent for tigers but often fully booked and requires more travel time. Pilibhit can be a good alternative when you have limited days and want a relaxed drive from Delhi.
Can we combine Pilibhit with other nearby parks?
Yes. Depending on your time, Pilibhit can be combined with Corbett, Dudhwa or Panna. We can suggest a route that balances travel time, safari quality and rest.
How do safari zones work in Pilibhit?
Pilibhit has multiple safari zones that are allocated at the time of booking. Guides share recent sighting clues and adjust the route accordingly. Zone selection and timing can make a big difference to your experience.
Is Pilibhit suitable for first-time tiger safari travelers?
Yes. It is less crowded than some major parks, has decent tiger density and offers a calm Tarai forest experience. This makes it a good choice for first-timers who want a relaxed introduction to tiger safaris.
What if all safaris are sold out in popular parks?
As Phillip’s case shows, when parks like Ranthambhore, Kanha, Bandhavgarh or Panna are full, Pilibhit can be a smart backup. We check availability across parks and suggest the best available option for your dates.
Can we do a Pilibhit trip with elderly or relaxed travelers?
Yes. The plan for Phillip, Rashmi and Margriet was intentionally relaxed, with only two safaris and plenty of rest time. We can adjust the pace, number of drives and stay style to suit older or more relaxed travelers.
How do I start planning a Pilibhit Tiger Reserve trip?
Share your preferred travel window, number of days, group size and wildlife interests. We will suggest safari zones, stay options and transfers, then refine the plan together.
